Peren, October 19 (MExN): Second year students from the department of Multimedia and Mass Communication (MMC), Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) visited Gaili village in Peren district on October 19.

The field trip was undertaken under the course curriculum ‘Communication for Rural Engagement,’ for the students pursuing degree course in Mass Communication, a press release from PCC stated.

The objective of the field trip was to pave way for the students to absorb, interact and immerse themselves in a practical way and experiment the possibilities of using ‘communication’ as a tool to engage the rural masses.

During the exposure trip, the students interacted with the villagers to get insights about the socio-economic and cultural condition of the village. The groups of students were divided into three teams. The teams were directed to carry out ‘Transect Walk’ from the entrance of the village to different end parts of the village. ‘Transect Walk’ is a tool that shows and describes the village in its original form with the help of members of the community.

Village Development Board, secretary Iteibambe Hau; primary teacher, Government Primary School Keyigumbe; village council members, Teisibe and Ibasile were the primary connecting link between the students and the villagers.

The village representatives led the teams undertaking the survey, where they visited as many as 50 households during the transect walk.

The department will make the field report available to the policy makers concerned in designing a road map for further development of Gaili village. The exercise was conducted under the guidance of Dr Dakter Esse, HoD MMC, PCC.

Meanwhile, on the day, first year students under the guidance of their teacher Rojenn Wahengbam did a photography exercise in the village, the release added.
