Patkai students visit heritage sites to explore cultural roots

Chümoukedima, February 15 (MExN): The Department of Education, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), organised an educational exposure trip to heritage sites in Senapati district, Manipur, on February 14, with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of cultural roots and indigenous traditions.

A press release from the college informed that total of 49 students, accompanied by eight faculty and staff members, visited the Dispersal Wild Pear Tree at Shajouba and the Sacred Banyan Tree at Makhel. Both sites are located in Senapati district of Manipur.

During the visit, the students engaged in a meaningful and enriching dialogue with youth leaders under the shade of a majestic and mystical wild pear tree, fostering reflection, shared learning, and a stronger connection to their traditions, it said. 

At Charangho (Shajouba) village, students gathered under the historic wild pear tree, venerated in Tenyimi Naga folklore and locally referred to as Orasübu (tree of gods).

According to oral tradition, the tree has existed since time immemorial and holds deep cultural significance, the release said. 

The group also visited Tsotawo, translated as “spirited stone,” at Khezhakenoma.
