Under the theme “Celebrating Talents,” the 2nd edition of the Patkai Trophy, an inter-institution championship hosted by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), is set to kick off at the college’s ground on February 29. This 3-day sporting event, taking place from February 29 to March 2, is also christened the Golden Jubilee edition, marking the 50th anniversary celebration of PCC (A) this year. 

In line with the significance of the occasion, the organisers have reported a notable increase in institutional registrations for the trophy this year. A total of 26 teams from various higher secondary schools and colleges in Nagaland have registered for the event, up from 16 teams last year.

The competition will unfold across four disciplines: football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton, with the 2024 edition boasting a total cash prize of 1.57 lakh, including six individual awards of Rs 1000 each.

Badminton has also been introduced as a new discipline for both men and women in the 2nd edition.  With the exception of football, all the events will feature competitions for both men and women.

The inaugural ceremony on February 29 will be graced by Colo Mero, Director of Life Ministries and Vice President of the Nagaland Football Association.  Following a brief programme, the trophy will be officially inaugurated with an opening football match.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony on March 2, set to take place with the presence of Temjen Imna Along, Advisor for Tourism, Higher and Technical Education, will also feature performances by Sunep Lemtur and rapper Juztino of Infinity Inc Nagaland.

The 2nd Patkai Trophy is organised by Patkai Christian College (A) in collaboration with LiveNow Events, with The Morung Express serving as the media partner. Prizes for various competitions are sponsored by mostly by individuals along with establishments and organisations.
