Patton visits relief, medical camps in Kerala

Kohima, August 24 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on his second day in flood ravaged Kerala visited several relief and medical camps and interacted with the inmates. He was accompanied by Minister Kashiho Sangtam and Advisor Longrineken Ao.  

The team earlier had a meeting with some representatives from the Society for Naga Students Welfare, Kerala and enquired about the well being of the Naga community in Kerala. Patton encouraged the Naga community to proactively involve in the relief and rescue operation and to demonstrate magnanimity by exhibiting the Good Samaritan spirit of the Nagas in times of need, stated a press release from Media Cell, Deputy Chief Minister’s office. It was learned that there are over 400 Naga populations presently in Kerala.  

Later in the day, the team visited several relief and medical camps to personally witness the actual conditions on the ground. Interacting with the inmates, Patton expressed sympathy and solidarity to all the affected population. He made a fervent appeal to one and all to help in the relief and rescue operation of the floods devastated State. The Deputy CM further assured the affected people that he will personally take up the concern with the Central government for all necessary assistance in rebuilding and restructuring the State, the release informed.  

Patton also extended financial aid for immediate medical and other relief materials to all the places he visited. Some of the relief and medical camps visited by the team are Aranmula at Pathanamthitta, Kozhencheri Church, Thiruvalla Model Girls High School, Eramallikkara at Allapuzha, Seva Bharatiya at Chengannur, Lohia Memorial High School at Venmony, Mar Thoma High School at Venmony among other places.  

The Deputy CM also addressed media personalities at the Press Club, Pathanamthitta and shared sympathy and solidarity of the people of Nagaland to the Keralites and offered condolences to the families of those killed in the catastrophe. He also praised the spirit of resilience shown by the Malayalee people for braving the unimaginable nature’s fury of recent memories.  

While expressing gratitude to the Central Government for declaring Kerala’s floods as a “calamity of severe nature”, he made fervent appeals to the Central government for all possible assistance to the State. Patton assured that the people of Nagaland stand with the Kerala people during this trying times, and will extend all possible cooperation to help recover from the disastrous natural calamity.
