PAUD condemns ‘false arrest’ by Assam Rifles

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The Phomching Area Union Dimapur (PAUD) has condemned what it termed the false arrest of one of its officials by the 43 Assam Rifles, claiming him to be a cadre of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K). According to the PAUD, its General Secretary Tahngao Konyak was arrested on September 27 from the Dimapur railway station area.

Upon hearing the news of his arrest, PAUD officials went to the East Police Station, Dimapur with a written clarification and pleaded for his release, it said.

During the same, the union clarified by submitting all the necessary proof and evidence that Konyak was an innocent civilian and an active official of PAUD, and that he was neither affiliated with any Naga Political Groups nor involved in any illegal activities.

However, to its dismay and shock, the PAUD stated that he was lodged in Central Jail like a “criminal without any verification or consideration.”

Further maintaining that Konyak was experiencing health issues in jail, the PAUD cautioned the 43 Assam Rifles that if anything were to happen to its General Secretary while in custody, the union would be compelled “to take any course of action.”

The union also appealed to the court of law to look into the case at the earliest and deliver justice without any further delay.
