Kohima, March 31 (MExN): Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kohima along with District Health Society, NHM organised a feedback on inspection and training on PC & PNDT Act and Rules at the conference hall on March 31.
The programme started with welcome note address by Dy CMO & Nodal Officer (PC & PNDT), Dr Imchatoshi, stated a press release.
CMO, Chairperson & District Appropriate Authority Kohima, Dr Tumchobeni, highlighted on the importance of PC & PNDT. She deliberated that Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994 was enacted on September 20, 1994 with the intent to prohibit pre diagnostic techniques for determination of the sex of the fetus leading to female feticide.
She informed about the preliminary object was to put a check on female feticide. “No doubt the bare perusal of the Act indicates that it is a draconic act from the point of its effect on radiologists/sinologists. The Act does not offer any escape to the erring radiologist/sinologist,” the CMO said.
She also deliberated on few basic requisitions of the Act: 1. Registration under Section (18) of the PC –PNDT Act; (2). Written consent of the pregnant woman and prohibition of communicating the sex of fetus under Section 5 of the Act; (3). Maintenance of record as provided under Section 29 of the Act; (4). Creating awareness among the public at large by placing the board of prohibition on sex determination,” she informed.
Drug Control Officer, Ethungbemo Ezung, gave a presentation on feedback on inspection and training on PC & PNDT Act and Rules in detail.
