PCAN begins quest to connect colleges in Nagaland

Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): The office bearers of Private College Association Nagaland (PCAN) are on a journey “to connect colleges in Nagaland for common goals: quality in higher education, exchange learning programs, mutual cooperation, collaboration and solidarity.” In this regard, the members of PCAN visited three colleges Tuli College, Jubilee Memorial College and Peoples College at Mokokchung district in the first round on September 6.


A press release issued by Fr Dr CP Anto stated that the team of PCAN was lead by the President, Dr P S Lorin, Principal of Testso College and it comprises of Dr C.P. Anto, Principal, NEISSR;  S C  Singh, Principal, Immanuel College and Dr T.K. Jana, Principal, Mt Mary College, Dimapur.


It stated that during the visit to Tuli College the team had a brief meeting with Dr. Abdul Kabir Ahmed, Principal of Tuli College and the administrator. Dr Lorin, President PCAN exalted the principal, teachers and students and shared the objectives of the organization. Dr. C.P. Anto also delivering a message highlighting the importance of networking with PCAN. Dr Kumar Jana another member who accompanied the team addressed the gathering. S C Singh Principal also addressed the team encouraging the faculty members and principals and shared his experience. 


Meanwhile, Nungshi Jamir the administrator of Tuli College shared the hardships faculty members and the management has to undergo in running a private college with meager help and supports from the Government. He also appreciated Imna Imchen Minister, Technical and Higher Education for understanding the situation of private colleges, it added. 


The release mentioned that the PCAN came into being based on a felt need of having a common platform for all the college in Nagaland for various inter- collegiate co-curricular activities such as in sports, cultural, literary, music etc. Towards this, it may conduct regular/ annual programmes, it added.


It held that the association aims to promote quality education for sustainable and holistic development of human resources by imparting core-values and skill- based education, as major stakeholders in higher education sector while contributing in different areas of higher education. 


It also aims to involve all stakeholders including the teachers, students, parents, society, the University and the Government in improving the standards of higher education in the State,” it said.


“This, according to the President, PCAN, requires a flow of communication and cooperation between the University, Regulatory Bodies, Government Departments and Agencies and the Private College,” it added.


It also stated that other aims of the association includes :enhancing and promoting ethical practices; academic integrity and credibility in all aspects and process of educational delivery; promoting the credibility and integrity of all academic programmes in the institutions of higher education in Nagaland and to endeavour in making Nagaland as an educational hub.


The President of PCAN calls for linkages with principals of all the colleges “to join hands in the collective endeavors to improve quality in higher education in the state,” the release said. It also informed that some of the upcoming programmes of PCAN includes “inter-college sports meet for private and government colleges in the later part of January 2020 .”
