PDLSA conduct awareness on NALSA schemes and consumer rights

Peren, September 24 (MExN): Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) conducted legal awareness on National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) schemes and Consumer Rights at Lekie Village Council Hall on September 21.

Speaking on Consumer Protection and NALSA (Protection and enforcement of Tribal Rights) scheme 2015, Echang, Panel Lawyer PDLSA informed that the Protection and enforcement of Tribal Rights scheme is aimed at ensuring access to justice to the tribal people in all its connotations- access to rights, benefits, legal aid, other legal services etc. He informed that several legal rights are guaranteed to the tribal people under- Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 etc.  

Echang said that the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted to provide for better protection of interest of consumers and to make provisions for the establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for the settlement of consumer disputes. He said that consumer can file complaint in case of an unfair or restrictive trade practiced by trader or service provider, trader or service provider has charged excess price or goods and services are hazardous or are likely to be hazardous to life and safety.  

Asuni, Panel Lawyer PDLSA spoke on Child Friendly Legal Services To Children And Their Protection Schemes 2015 and NALSA (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes) Scheme, 2015, while Asungbe, Retainer Lawyer PDLSA spoke on NALSA (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace) scheme, 2015 and NALSA (Victim of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) scheme 2015. Teiresong, Pastor Peletkie Baptist Church pronounced a prayer for the release of pamphlets in local dialect on September 22. The programme was chaired by Italang Ramlia, APP Peren. This was followed by an interactive session.
