PDMGDVA questions State Govt's 'repeated failure' to file affidavit

Chozuba Town, May 17 (MExN):  The Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA), in a representation to the Nagaland Chief Secretary on May 17 has questioned the “repeated failure of the State Government to file additional affidavit” in response to a PIL.

According to the Association, the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has filed the public interest litigation in the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench pertaining to damaged compensation.

It further pointed out that on April 11, 2022, the State Respondent pleaded for more time to file a 'clarificatory affidavit,’ which the Court granted for four weeks, listing the matter again on May 11.

However, to its dismay, the State Respondent once again pleaded for more time when the matter then came before the Court on May 11, the PDMGDVA said. The matter is listed again for hearing on May 25.

While the court has given ample opportunity, the State Respondent is “least concerned and least bothered about its potential overburden task and especially on the agony and anger of thousands of damaged victims,” it alleged.

Accordingly, the Association informed that it has resolved to resume intensive agitation in any manner deemed fit after May 25, if the State Respondent fails to file the affidavit.

“On few occasions past agitations were withdrawn due to appeal by State Government, but such plea in the coming days may not be reciprocated by the victim community,” stated the PDMGDVA’s representation to the Chief Secretary, appended by its Convenor Pushovoyi Nyekha, and Co- Convenors,  Vepozoyi Theyo, Mudonyi Shijoh and Nehusa Cukhamu. It further appealed for immediate attention as well as prompt and necessary action by the Chief Secretary.
