PDS Rice scam: Mkg DC holds meeting with civil society orgs

MOKOKCHUNG, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): A joint meeting was called by the Mokokchung DC today in the presence of the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLC), All Ward Union, AKM, Watsu Mungdang, Ao Senden and the Mokokchung SP in order to discuss the ‘PDS Rice Scam’ issue. The MTLT, in a press note from its Public Grievances Cell informed that the DC assured that all the shops involved in the scam would be closed until the case proceedings come to a close.

The MTLT further informed that a court arrest warrant was issued on February 4 2016 to arrest the Store Keeper, Food & Civil Supplies Department, Mokokchung, Nagaland.”   According to the MTLT, the SP said in today’s meeting that “such an arrest could not take place due to procedural limitations.” The MTLT informed that the storekeeper was “summoned today by the District Magistrate. However, he failed to turn up and hence, a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued at around 1:00pm accordingly as per the legal procedures.  “Upon inquiry, the SP said that he was not aware of the arrest warrant. The MTLT, therefore, questioned the SP. Later, the SP gave full assurance that the arrest warrant will be executed at the earliest to avoid untoward reactions from the public of Mokokchung,” the MTLT alleged.   Regarding its demand that the civil society members be added to the Inquiry Committee set up by the DC, the DC informed that this could not be done because the Inquiry Committee has already been set up.   While acknowledging the DC’s protocol, the MTLT cautioned that “if the final findings and decisions of the Inquiry Committee are not up to the expectations of the Mokokchung public, the public will go ahead with their own course of action to save Mokokchung from unscrupulous people.”
