PDVCO to check consumer rights in Phek district

In a bid to check the exploitation of consumers by unscrupulous consumer, the Phek District Voluntary Consumer Organisation (PDVCO) has shopkeepers that the organisation would strongly deal in matters of pricing and weights commodities being sold in the market. 

The Phek District Voluntary Consumer Organisation (PDVCO), which was formed on September 8 last during a seminar on “Consumer Protection & Legal Services Act” at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Phek, inorder to pursue with the Legal Services Act a Joint sitting of PDVCO and Rate Fixation Committee, Phek was held at the Office Chamber of Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) SDO (C) Phek on September 20. The Joint Sitting lengthily deliberated on the prices of the commodities i.e. the Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

According to the newly elected PDVCO President, Vekhonieyi Venuh, with the formation of this new people’s protection Organisation, the said organization would firmly proceed with the assigned activities for the benefit of the consumers in the District.

According to the reliable sources, the organization would strongly deal with matters relating to the prices of the essential commodities such as Weight & Measures (Kilograms & Metres), Litres and all the MRP printed prices on the essential commodities. The Organisation further directed all Dealers of Pork, Beef, Chicken, Fish, Vegetables, Timber (both firewood & Cubic timber) to strictly adhere with the rate prescribed by the Deputy Commissioner Office Phek, and Town Council Office, Phek. Failure to comply with the directives would make the defaulters would face trial in the Consumer Court and subsequently befitting penalty would be awarded as deem fit.  Vekhonieyi further added that, any complaints by costumers must be intimated to the organization along with the Cash Memo. In this regard, Vekhonieyi requested all the customers to obtained cash memos from the shops where they have purchased the commodities so as to avoid controversies. 

Apart from the commodity prices, at the shopping level, the drivers or owners of any goods trucks have been directed to obtain original authorized Receipt from any Organisation or Department etc. in all the Check Gate in the District. 

The Organisation appealed to all the Officer In charge of the Check Gate to be aware of the same.

Moreover, Venuh asserted that any individual or organization found violating the directives of the organization in the form of cheating the consumers, the organization will in no way tolerate with those activists.

Meanwhile, with the publication of these directives, Venuh further added that effective Order will be functioning that all commercial establishments under Phek District are directed to issue Cash Memo to the customers so as to fulfill the criteria of the Legal Services Act. The customers are also further directed to obtain the same along with the proper names of the shops, date, quantity; prices etc. from the shop for the same will help the customers a lot in all the controversy arising in the transactions.

The reliable sources further added that the formation of PDVCO was fully endorsed by all the related Agencies in the District. The election Manual of the PDVCO was carried out under the Supervision of Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi, President NVCO who had attended the same as the Special Observer authorized from the State Level.
