Peace Channel inaugurated at Oriental College

Students of Oriental College, Kohima during the inaugural of “Peace Channel” at the College auditorium on August 6.
 
Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): Peace Channel, the Youth Peace Movement was inaugurated at Oriental College, Kohima on August 6, 2011 at the college auditorium. Victor Kevilhouthie Yhome, Coordinator Peace Channel, Kohima District in his message, re-introduced the Peace Channel Movement to the gathering. He mentioned that Peace Channel is a youth peace movement which is aiming at motivating and organising the youths irrespective of differences of tribe, region, religion, denomination etc. to come forward under the banner of peace and to promote peace. He said that Peace is a situation of mind where one is able to keep oneself safe, undisturbed and unharmed in the midst of all the difficulties, problems and violence.
He also termed Peace as an addictive feeling when we are really convinced and truly believe in Peace. He said that, Peace carries a message of love, respect, care, reconciliation and hope and that peace is not made from a conference table but in the minds of the people. He also said that, today the essence of peace is lost, and is not found in the lives of individuals, families, society, nation in the form of wars, murders, thefts, robberies, corruption, rapes etc. He pointed out that 21st century is a century of dialogue, so peace is a very important element for any positive outcome and development. Lastly, he congratulated all the Peace Channel volunteers who have taken the responsibility and the challenge to be different and promote peace at this situation.
Gopal, vice-principal of Oriental College also exhorted the gathering. He said that when the whole world is longing and yearning for peace, Peace Channel has taken a very noble idea to promote peace in our land. He said that the introduction of Peace Channel has added another chapter in the history of Oriental college. He also added that, to have peace in the society, there should be harmony and tranquillity in the communal relationships. He concluded by officially declaring the Peace Channel Movement in the college a full fledged club.
The program was chaired by Thungbeni Kikon. Words of welcome were delivered by Aien, general secretary, Peace Club, Oriental College. On the occasion, 22 students took the Peace Pledge, pledging to promote peace always and everywhere as a peace activist. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Thepuzotuo, information secretary, Peace Club, Oriental college. The program concluded with the Peace Channel Anthem.
