NIULAND, JUNE 1 (MExN): Peace Channel conducted a one-day Peace Club Leaders Training Program at Bethel Baptist School, Old Showuba, Niuland District, bringing together student leaders from various schools across the district to promote leadership and peacebuilding.
A major highlight of the event was the session on “Confidence Building and Leadership towards Peace” led by James Phanungkiu, Project Coordinator at Peace Channel. In an interactive exercise, students introduced themselves and shared their hobbies, creating a sense of inclusion. Phanungkiu recounted his own journey from being a shy and bullied student to becoming a college student council president. “Leadership is not about titles but about self-awareness, empathy, and taking initiative,” he told the students, encouraging them to embrace their individuality and step into roles as peacebuilders.
The second session, led by researcher Saziini Chache, focused on “Peace Celebration and Its Seven Steps,” offering practical tools for embedding peacebuilding in student life. This was followed by an action planning segment facilitated by Ashela Teresa, Project Coordinator, who guided students in outlining activity plans for their respective Peace Clubs with a focus on the upcoming World Environment Day.
District Coordinator Jesse T. Sumi welcomed the participants and Peace Channel team, thanking them for their involvement and commitment. The day concluded with a vote of thanks and benediction by Media Coordinator Pezangulie Suokhrie.
Earlier in the day, Sister Magdelena Soren conducted an energizing ice-breaker session that set a collaborative tone for the program. The event was chaired by N.G. Souhvane.
