Peace, dev tops UPA agenda for NE

KOHIMA, DEC 30 (MExN): The present UPA government at the Centre has as its agenda the twin objectives of peace and development for the northeast region. Union Minister of Development of North Easter Region, P. R. Kyndiah while greeting the people of the region on the occasion of New Year, stated that peace and security are the basic requirement for the region.

Our Government at the centre has initiated appropriate policy and programmes to achieve the twin objectives, Kyndiah said according to a PIB press communiqué.

Underlining that there was a new awareness to develop the region not only at the State level but as a region in a holistic environment, Kyndiah said that economic development had taken a shape which will make the region a strategic place as an ‘Economic bridge’  to the ASEAN countries.

“The “Look East Policy” of the UPA Government has already started to bear fruits. In no distant future trade, commerce and communication with the ASEAN countries will be enhanced in a way never dreamt before”.

Further Kyndiah pointed out that the UPA Government was fully conscious of the need to prioritize investment in social sectors and agriculture so that the people are provided adequate facilities in education, health and employment and in order to alleviate poverty.
