Peace Forum to be formed in Peren Town

Peren, July 27 (MExN): The 4th consultative meeting of leaders for the formation of Peace Forum in Peren was held on July 22 at Grace Complex, Peren Town Baptist Church campus. The house unanimously accepted to form the Peace Forum in Peren Town without any further consultative meet as it was meant primarily for maintaining peace in the society and to resolve certain issues by putting forward its ideas towards peaceful resolution, a press release stated.  

A Search Committee was formed to appoint and select the Executives in order to carry out the necessary measures for functioning of the Peace Forum.  

Earlier in the meeting, Taku Longkumer, President, People’s Forum for Peace, Dimapur, who was the resource person, explained the concept, objectives and functions of Peace Forum. He also explained the importance of the concept of Peace among the elders and the leaders of the society. Peace lovers, he stated, should be sincere and neutral. “We cannot bow down to any of the party to make Peace, we cannot be one-sided.” He further asserted that discussion and dialogue are an important part of resolving conflict and not through violence, according to the press release. Peace is a gradual process which takes time and which can be achieved by coming together for peaceful co-existence, he added.   Mmhathung David, Project Coordinator, Peace Channel also augmented on the concept of the Peace Forum. He said that the Peace Forum is an inclusive forum with no hidden agendas. Peace Channel will be capacitating the members of the Peace Forum on dialogue and mediation to help the Forum resolve conflict in a peaceful manner.  

There was an open discussion and deliberation initiated by Haiku Nza, Convener, Organizing Committee. Many leaders from different background expressed their views concerning the formation of the Peace Forum.  

The programme was attended by leaders from various churches, institutions, organizations, social activists and public leaders.
