WHILE CLARIFYING that the Consultative Committee on Peace set up by the DAN government was not dissolved and that only its sub-committee was dissolved, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today gave a clear demarcation between the CCP and the proposed Joint Legislators Committee on Peace (JLCP). Asked how the CCP and JLCP will be functioning, Rio said that CCP will be the government body, while the JLCP will be the political committee.

“Both will function in their own way”, Rio also said. However, Rio said that there will lot of difference in views and opinions in the JLCP as it is the political body. It is learnt that consultation is underway for the formation of Joint Legislators Committee on Peace.

Earlier Rio refuted reports in a section of the local dailies (not The Morung Express) wherein it was reported that the CCP had been dissolved. “How can the party dissolve the government committee?” said Rio, while making it clear that only the sub-committee of CCP was dissolved as the work of the latter was over.

Consultative Committee on Peace, Rio said was set up by DAN government, which is headed by him and the members included Home Commissioner, DGP, Chief Secretary and others. “It is a government Committee” Rio said.

Its sub-committee was set up to interact, collect views and opinions of different groups of the undergrounds and overgrounds. “They have done a commendable job and they submitted their reports to the CCP”, Rio said, adding that as a government since they could not meet the UG group all these were assigned to the sub-committee.

Rio also said that the proposed Joint Legislators Committee on Peace (JLCP) is being initiated to involve everybody in the peace process.
