‘Penalize rogue Hong Kong market shopkeepers’

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council is strongly urged by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union to take exemplary action against the Hong Kong market shopkeepers responsible for assaulting two customers on August 24. It is not an unknown fact that Hong Kong market shopkeepers have harassed customers, the DNSU stated in a letter addressed to the chairman of the DMC. 

The DNSU mentioned one Surendra Prasad and a Bishambar Prasad, proprietor of shop number 1504/02 at Hazi Park, Hong Kong market, to be taken action against and their trade license cancelled. 

A lecturer, one David and a Kitoho was assaulted by a mob of shopkeepers. Stating that it is no secret that Hong Kong market shopkeepers harass customers regularly, the DNS pointed out that Dimapur being the commercial hub all sections of the society shop in Dimapur. Accidents such as the one that took place send a negative vibe throughout the state, the DNSU stated.  “…it is sad to inform you that shopkeepers from that particular area have preyed upon the consumers and roughed them up unreasonably; this is a various trend that needs to be checked and stopped at the earliest before another innocent customer is victimized” the students urged the DMC chairperson. 

Stating that such activities should not be taken lightly keeping in mind the law of the land, the DNSU also questioned the audacity of the shopkeepers to take the law into their own hands. The students’ organization has urged the council to initiate exemplary action against the culpable shopkeepers so to send a clear message to customers and Dimapur’s citizens that the city is safe to shop in. 

Demanding strong action against Surendra Prasad and Bishambar Prasad, the DNSU has also cautioned that no new license should be issued to the two. The DNSU expects prompt action from the Dimapur Municipal Council against the shopkeepers.
