Pensioners and Family Pensioners (P&FA) today staged sit-in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Community Hall in Imphal demanding the implementation of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
The sit-in protest was held under the banner, “We demand our long Cherished 22 point charter of demands including the adoption the 7th Pay with Fitment Factor 3.68 with effect from 1st January, 2016 with arrears made by The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions’ Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees’ Organisation (AMGEO)”.
Speaking to reporters at the protest site, Salam Birendra, a pensioner said, “We feel very bad as pensioners in the present BJP led Government as it failed to implement even after 154 days of protest of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO.”
He alleged the Government used many policies by “dividing among the employees to foil the JAC’s demands”. However, the JAC retained and continued the agitation for the 'genuine' demands, Birendra added.
During the election, he said, the BJP promised to implement the 7th Pay Commission, but nothing has been done after forming the government.
He also cautioned that if the existing system continues in the State, pensioners will no longer support the BJP led government. “Instead, we will start working against the BJP government.”
According to him, earlier, they had hoped that the Biren Singh led government would be better for the people “but it turned out to be otherwise.”
Birendra further maintained that the State government could not solve any of the state problems in the state. He also alleged that issues after issues have cropped up during the BJP led government.
