Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): People for Democratic Rights (PDR) has appealed to all right-thinking citizens to extend support and cooperation towards fighting for democratic rights of the people.
In a press release, it informed that the organization was formed by “likeminded concerned Naga citizens” and “social think-tanks from various strata of society” with the objective of fighting for democratic rights of the people.
PDR was officially launched on July 3, 2017 in Dimapur “after serious of brainstorming and meetings” with its designated headquarters in Dimapur and branch office in Kohima, stated the release from Hukato Zhimo, convenor and Temjen Aier, secretary of PDR.
With the vision, “Democratic Rights for every citizen,” it pledged to work towards: equal democratic right for every citizen; acting as a pressure group to exert pressure on the government to follow democratic norms in its functioning and deliver goods to the people; checking all sorts of undemocratic practices and bringing back semblance of democracy in the State; vouching for clean e-roll and fair election practices at all levels from village council to State and Central election.
Since its formation, it said, PDR has been “minutely” following all reports regarding corruption and irregularities published in local media. “News published in the newspapers based on RTI responses are also being monitored as to whether any logical conclusions are arrived at or left midway. PDR envisages to use the effective tool of RTI, information from whistle blowers, monitoring or implementation of various schemes on the ground with a strong resolute and commitment to stand for the people whose democratic rights are being trampled and abused,” the press release asserted.
The group also intends to take every possible legal course from Vigilance, Lokayukta, Media and Court to bring issues to conclusion, it added.
“The PDR will lend support to all likeminded organizations and individuals in the common interest of the public. In all issues, the PDR will adopt democratic means to arrive at logical conclusions,” the release further asserted.
