Imphal | February 9
Peoples’ Alliance Manipur (PAM), another conglomerate of various civil society organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill, has given a 36-hour total shutdown, to be commenced from 5 am of February 11 and conclude on 5 pm of the next day. While giving the total shutdown call, PAM urged the people to cease their chores during the total shut down and takes part in the mass protest against the CAB. The decision to impose the total shut-down was adopted in a ‘People’s Convention” held at GM Hall, Imphal in which many noted social activists, legal experts talked on the impact of the CAB which was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8 and pending for clearance of the Rajya Sabha.
The convention further resolved to stage "fasting stir" at more than 50 places against the Bill across the state on February 13 and other democratic forms of agitations in the following days. The convention also passed a resolution to join hands with the indigenous people of other Northeast states while calling for co-ordination among the civil society organisations launching agitations against the Bill. "If the Parliament happens to pass the Bill, the PAM will convene a public meeting on February 20 to decide future course of action," the convention said.
