A sad, longing  moment for outgoing Governor Shaymal Datta was perhaps reserved for the last when he was about to board the plane bound for Kolkata: ex-servicemen of the Rajya Sainik Board gave a warm farewell as the Choir of Withebee Bible College sang the ageless hymn ‘Till we meet again’.

The outgoing ‘Peoples Governor’ of Nagaland Shymal Datta today left for home at 12 noon. He was dropped to the airport by Chief Minister  Neiphiu Rio, Industries Minister Kekhiho Zhimomi and Dimapur Deputy Commissioner K Nzimongo Ngullie.

The Rajya Sainik Board also made elaborate preparations and gave a fitting farewell at Dimapur Airport as Datta arrived to catch his plane.

Secretary of the Rajya Sainik Board, Lt Col (rtd) SI Jakhalu in a short function at the Airport said that ex-servicemen had gathered in honor of the much-loved Datta who had given a respectable status to ex-servicemen in the society. Jakhalu said that the ex-servicemen will always remember Datta as their Godfather and prayed that God would bless Datta’s life abundantly.

When asked how he felt about being regarded as the people’s Governor, the popular Datta, in full dignity, said the people’s love has overwhelmed him.

“The credit goes to the people (of Nagaland) and I am overwhelmed by the love and affection shown by the people and I am carrying an emotional bag with me” said Datta. Datta whose five year term as the Governor of Nagaland ended on January 27, left for Kolkata today.
