Chümoukedima, February 13 (MExN): Peren and Chümoukedima districts are set to compete for the football gold medal in the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 (NOPG 2024) after both teams triumphed over their opponents in today’s semifinals.
In the first, Peren secured a 2-1 victory against Phek, with an early goal from Lamsanngin (Jersey No 27) in the fourth minute and another by Winamthiu (10) in the 75th minute. Although Phek managed to score through Yhoto (9) in the 29th minute, it was not sufficient to turn the game in their favour.

The second semifinal ended in a 1-1 draw after normal and extra time, leading to a tiebreaker. Dimapur, who scored in the 30th minute through Ghuqhe (9), maintained the lead for most of the game. However, a late goal by Chümoukedima’s Limakumzuk (10) in the 90th minute upset their chances of reaching the final. In the penalty shootout, Chümoukedima emerged victorious with a score of 6-5.

The final between Chümoukedima and Peren is scheduled at Ground A Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS) Ground at 2 PM. Dimapur and Phek will compete for the third-place position at 9 AM on the same ground.
