With the posting of the First Medical Superintendent Dr. N.R. Newmai and half a dozen doctors, Peren Civil Hospital is making a difference with changes and development fast taking place in the hospita1. Kudos to Dr. Newmai MS, Medical Officers, Nurses and Ministerial Staff. “Rome the city of seven hills was not built in a day”; likewise the Peren Civil Hospital cannot be compared with the standard of other district hospitals. But with the changes and development fast taking place under the able leadership of Dr. Newmai the hospital sure is going to be a boon for the Peren District.
The foundation stone of hospital was laid by Shri O.N. Luthra IFAS, Commissioner, Naga Hills Tuensang Area on October 12th 1958, and formally inaugurated by Shri. M. Ramunny, IFAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima on October 2nd 1959. Time and again the hospital was upgraded and finally it was upgraded to Civil Hospital on January 9th 2003. Today with the posting of the First Medical Superintendent Dr. N.R. Newmai and the First Chief Medical Officer Dr. Neiketuo Angami, Peren Hospital is making a new beginning.
For which the Peren Students’ Union would like to express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Government for taking necessary steps in response to the grievances and complaints of the union. While expressing its profound gratitude to the government, the union would like to put into record the services of the doctors, nurses and ministerial staff posted at Peren, particularly to Dr. N.R. Newmai, MS and Dr. Neiketuo Angami, CMO, Peren. The MS and his team deserve the best applaud from the public of Peren as they have started the hospital basically from a scratch.
Taking into consideration the posting of the First Medical Superintendent, Doctors, Specialists and with the changes and development taking place the union would like to appeal the General Public to cooperate with the hospital staff. At the same time, appeal to the government to look into the following points and do the needful for better and smooth functioning of the hospital.
1. Ambulance: Till date, the hospital does not have an ambulance, it has been using the service of the Red Cross Ambulance as and when an emergency arises. Therefore, the union appeals to the esteemed authority to provide ambulance at the earliest possible.
2. New OPD Building: New OPD Building is on the verge of completion, but when the union inspects the work it is very discouraging to see the poor quality of the material used for the construction. Another very interesting thing is that almost half of the building is comprised of dark room. The union wonders whether it is a hospital for OPD or a dungeon for prisoners. For which the union sincerely appeals to the concerned authority to look into the matter for necessary action and renovation before releasing the bill/fund to the contractor.
3. The New Rural Hospital: The New Rural (20 bedded) Hospital attached to the Civil Hospital is also on the verge of completion, but work has not seen any activity for days. For which the union appeals to the government and concerned contractor to complete the rural hospital at the earliest, as there is acute shortage of rooms and wards in the hospital.
4. Operation Theater: Though most of the essential equipments for the OT have arrived, according to the MS, Operation Theater cannot start its function since the new OT building was not constructed properly (with reason best known to the contractor). Therefore, the union appeals to the government to renovate the OT room, in order to start its function at the earliest.
5. Acute Shortage of Room: There is acute shortage of rooms in the hospital because of which, the X-ray facility have arrived but there is no room to install; there is no room for nursing-in-change, no labour room, no cabin and store room, for which, the union appeals to the government to provide for the immediate needs of the hospital.
6. Water Supply: Scarcity of water is another major problem, therefore, the union requests and appeals to the concerned department to immediately connect separate water connection / pipe line to the hospital.
7. Electricity: Lastly, the union expresses its sincere gratitude to the power department for installing and connecting a three phase power supply to the hospital. In this regard, the union appeals to the hospital staff and public to use electricity, particularly the generator, judiciously and meaningfully for the best interests of the public.
In conclusion, the Peren Students’ Union once again expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Newmai, MS and Ministerial Staff for taking keen interest in developing and improving the hospital. May the good Lord bless you all as you continue to serve the people of Peren District.
