Jalukie, August 30 (MExN): A Science Exhibition 2026 on the theme “Harnessing Science for a Sustainable Future” was organised by the Zeme Baptist Church Council (ZBCC) in collaboration with Kendeu Coaching Centre (KCC) and hosted by Baptist High School, Jalukie, on Friday.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Peidoding, Headmaster, Christian School, Jalukie. It included an invocation prayer by Iteibeule, Administrator, Baptist Higher Secondary School, Peren Town; a welcome address by Dr Rampaukopoing Michui, Executive Secretary, ZBCC; an introductory note by Igumsing Hingleu, CFO, Kendeu Coaching Centre; and a special presentation by students of Baptist High School, Jalukie. The programme concluded with a benediction by Sarah Kamlak Rangkau, Women Secretary, ZBCC.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru said the exhibition provided students an opportunity to gain experimental knowledge beyond classroom theory.
He described the event as a celebration of human ingenuity, where imagination is translated into real-life applications. Encouraging students not to be discouraged by initial failures in their projects, he said experimentation, refinement and perseverance helped develop intellectual ability.
Meru identified education, healthcare and the economy as key areas requiring attention in the district. He encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship and other career avenues beyond the traditional pursuit of government jobs, noting the increasing competition for such employment.
He also stressed the importance of academic performance, saying educational qualifications often played a significant role in determining future opportunities. He acknowledged the contribution of the Baptist Council towards the spread of education in the district and said education remained fundamental to unlocking human potential.
On sustainable development, Meru expressed concern over the impact of logging and rapid urbanisation on Jalukie's identity as the “Rice Bowl of Nagaland” and Peren's recognition as the “Green District of Nagaland”.
He called upon students to take proactive steps and use science and innovation to address present challenges and contribute to building a sustainable future for the district.
Following the inaugural programme, the science exhibition, elocution competition and extempore competition were conducted with participation from students.
In the Science Exhibition, “Air to Grow” of BHSS Jalukie B won the first prize, followed by “Water Cleaning Boat” of BHS Jalukie in second place and “Wind 2 Life” of BHSS Jalukie B in third place.
In the Elocution Competition, Kilamle of BHS Jalukie secured first place, followed by Kingeudibe of BHSS Jalukie B and Ipeusile Nlang of BHS Jalukie in second and third positions, respectively.
In the Extempore Speech Competition, Samzai Newme of BHS Jalukie won the first prize, Iraibale of BHSS Peren Town secured second place and Peihauyipetpe of Mission English School, Bendramai, secured third place.
The competitions were judged by Er Irangtalang, Keyicetpeule, Kehelingle, Er Chudi, Hiazu Meru and Peihauding. The programme concluded with a prayer by Ariebe Hingleu.
