Peren, November 7 (MExN): The Peren District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) convened its monthly meeting on November 7, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru.

In his opening remarks, DC Meru welcomed a team from the NGO Pro Rural and noted the low attendance of officers due to a busy social calendar in November. He directed all Heads of Offices to ensure their presence at the next meeting, where key agendas for the upcoming Unity Mini Hornbill Festival will be discussed, a DIPR report said.

A review of the previous meeting's minutes confirmed financial assistance was provided to adopted schools for programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. The progress of initiatives in adopted colleges, including the formation of a Girls’ Pipe Band at Peren Government College, was also assessed.

The Board discussed preparations for the Inter-Departmental Tournament. The DC proposed scheduling the event in September or October from next year to ensure wider participation from district government employees.

On the Unity Mini Hornbill Festival, Meru expressed satisfaction with the cooperation from tribal bodies and finalised departmental work distribution for the event.

The DC commended departments for conducting regular monthly social works, which aid in maintaining cleanliness during major events, and encouraged them to continue the practice.

Regarding construction, all departments were instructed to obtain prior permission from the District Administration to ensure adherence to the district master plan.

The Principal of Peren Government College, Dr T Jamedi Longkumer, proposed the introduction of Sociology as a new subject. The proposal was unanimously approved by the house for submission to the government.

The meeting also recommended a proposal for financial assistance to renovate the drainage and retaining wall of the Peren Town Local Ground. The registration of the Tesen Baptist Churches School Society was approved by the house.

A PowerPoint presentation on the activities of Pro Rural in sectors like Agriculture, Health, and Skills was delivered by Kiusang S. Tikhir, Agriculture Expert from the NGO.

For the next DPDB meeting, the District Industries Centre (DIC), Peren, has been assigned to present a PowerPoint on its departmental activities.
