Peren farmers trained on seed production tech

RCM 9 variety of rice was distributed to farmers during a seed production training held at Beisumpuikam village, Peren on May 18.

 

PEREN, MAY 19 (MExN): The KVK Peren, Jalukie in collaboration with ICAR Complex for NER, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani conducted a training on seed production technology of lowland rice and seed village programme at Beisumpuikam village on May 18.

 

During the programme, training was given on production technology including seed treatment, nursery and field preparation, line sowing, weeding, fertilizer application, nutrient management, rogueing and field monitoring. Dr Harendra Verma, Scientist, Plant Breeding & Genetics, ICAR Jharnapani was the speaker on this.

 

Meanwhile, Dr Patu K Zeliang, ACTO, Plant Breeding & Genetics, KVK Peren encouraged the farmers to organize seed production in cluster or compact areas. She further urged the participants to replace existing local varieties with new high yielding varieties, to meet local demand for timely supply at reasonable rate for self sufficiency and self reliance in the village.

 

One quintal of rice variety RCM 9, a high yielding variety tolerant to blast with maximum potential yield of 8.2 t/ha developed from ICAR Manipur Centre was distributed to the selected twelve farmers including four women farmers for starting seed production.

 

After the programme, a farmer scientist interaction was conducted wherein queries on cultivation practices of various kharif crops like paddy, sesame, bajra maize etc were also discussed.
