Peren Police on Wednesday informed that the case against three returnees and another person charged under the Disaster Management Act 2005 and relevant section of IPC would be taken up after the four completed their respective quarantine period.
On Tuesday, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Peren informed that Police have registered the case against the four persons for “negligence of act likely to spread infectious disease dangerous to the life and for violating quarantine rule.”
When contacted, Additional SP Peren, Limaakum, told The Morung Express that of the four, three were returnees while the other person was a friend of one of the returnees who came in contact with the later.
Earlier, Peren Police detained three returnees after they sneaked out from their quarantine facility at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Jalukie-B in two separate incidents on June 20 and 21. One person who came in contact with one of the returnees in the first incident was also detained.
The Additional SP informed that the four were put up at Police Quarantine Facility at Peren, but later one of the returnees who tested positive was shifted to the COVID-19 Hospital at Jalukie.
Earlier, there were speculations among citizens in Peren district that the four were either lodged at sub-jail Peren or shifted to Police QC at Ganeshnagar, Dimapur.
Dismissing the speculations, Limaakum said after the state government had issued a new directive stating that every district should set up a police QC, Peren district too had set up its Police QC.
According to a DIPR report dated June 22, the DC Peren has constituted a District Legal Team which has been tasked with, among other responsibilities, establishing a standard operation procedure for imposition of specific legal provisions on individuals violating government orders.
