The Peren police informed that the man, who was arrested on September 17, in connection to the rape of a woman has been booked under IPC sections— 376, 375, 352 and 325.
The police did not disclose the identity of the accused, who was in judicial custody, only informing that he was a 35 year-old married man. “The day we received the complaint, FIR was registered. We acted very swiftly and the accused was arrested within an hour,” said a Peren police official, while adding that the investigation was also looking into other possible angles. Samples have also been collected for forensic analysis.
Queried on the possible involvement of more people, the official said that the investigation thus far pointed to the accused only.
While the alleged rape happened on the night of September 8, the case came to light after the victim, in her mid 20s, was admitted to hospital on September 17 for injuries reportedly resulting from sexual assault. An FIR was subsequently filed by the victim’s family at the Women Police Station, Jalukie. The police described her condition as “stable,” as on September 23. The delay in seeking medical care and the subsequent police complaint was attributed allegedly to fear of social stigma associated with sexual crimes.
