Peren | April 11

A hiatus of two and  half years have gracefully elapsed but Peren district is yet to taste the flavor of various work programmes promised by the state government since its inception on February 14 2003 by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

It maybe recalled that the stagnant phase began owing to some internal disagreement on the first 2 (two) preferred sites which consequently facilitated the process into the present dilly-dallying situation.

Following this, however, concerned authorities from the government, along with the Zeliangrong Baudi (Hoho) and public leaders after comprehensive deliberations on the feasibility of the area at Jalukie undertook site survey at several places twice and had forwarded the reports for the state Cabinet’s approval through the Commissioner.

With the people all agog with suspense as to when the Government would quench their curiosity about the HQ site, the issue had given rise to much fuss and ado among the general populace of Peren area. ‘Peren district HQ’ has become the buzzword inside and outside the home of every Peren citizen in the district. Commenting on the issue during an informal tête-à-tête with our correspondent a couple of days ago TR Zeliang, MP (Rajya Sabha) remarked that since the Hoho, shouldering the people’s mandate had already endorsed their verdict to the concerned authorities the Government should necessitate the work without any further delay.

Expressing concern in the same vein, Dennis Elung, President Zeliangrong Baudi opined “We have already passed the ball to the Government now the Government should score the goal”. It may be mentioned that the Zeliangrong Hoho’s decision was the outcome of a series of consultations and assimilation of collective views after hectic parleys with the leaders of ninety four or so villages of the district during the last general meeting held at Jalukie, where the attendees had endorsed their commitment and acceptance to whatever decision the Hoho and the Government takes concerning the issue.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that many an excited concerned Peren citizen has observed that it is disheartening to see the stake meant for development of the district vaporizing into thin air every year and are of the view that since “Government is of the people, by the people and for the people” it is high time that the Government expedite the process of work implementation on the consensus site endorsed by the people.
