Peren team beats Kenkre FC Mumbai in penalty shoot out

Kohima | November 26 : Peren. Dist. Sports Assn beat Kenkre FC, Mumbai by three goals to one (3-1) in a penalty shoot-out and secured a place in the semi finals of the Royal Cup tournament in Kohima.
The fourth quarterfinal match ended in a scoreless draw as both teams failed to score after ninety minutes of play. The teams were unable to break the deadlock even after 30 minutes of extra time and the match eventually had to be decided on penalties.
The first half of the match saw very little action as both teams failed to create any meaningful chances. Ball possession was shared almost equally between the teams, but neither of them managed to mount any serious threat. Peren were able to construct some good build-up play in midfield, but failed to deliver the final ball properly.
After the break, Peren pressed on to take the lead and created some shots on goal. But all their attempts either went wide of the post or ended up being saved by the Kenkre keeper. It was frustrating for both teams as they failed to cancel each other out. Peren had a golden opportunity to steal the winning goal when they were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute. Khuanjang (6) stepped up to convert the penalty, but his shot bounced off the keeper which resulted in a goal mouth melee and allowed Asian (12) to make another attempt at goal, but unfortunately his shot hit the post. Peren had greater percentage in ball possession and continued to harass the opposition’s goal, but none of their efforts came to fruition.
It was the same story in the 30 minutes of extra time that was played. Both teams failed to create any clear chances and eventually the match had to be decided on penalties.  Keneisedelie (8) of Peren stepped up and took the first penalty shot and clinically converted it to put his team ahead. Mumbai managed to put themselves under a lot of pressure when their first shot, taken by J. Mervin (10) was well saved by the PDSA keeper. They subsequently missed two more penalties while Peren managed to convert three out of the five penalties and won the match.
