Peren, June 8 (MExN): The village councils of Nzauna and Lalong under Peren district have drawn attention to the state of road infrastructure development carried out under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in its areas.
“The PMGSY road from Ngam Village to Nzauna, a distance of 35 kms under Tening Sub-division was sanctioned and the work allotted to the two Contractors namely, M/S Akhrieu and Co and M/S Regency Construction in the month of March 2012 to be completed within 18 months. Ten years have passed but 70% of the physical works are still lying undone in spite of repeated appeals and petitions to the Government as well as the contractors,” the Chairpersons of Nzauna Village Council and Lalong Village Council stated in a joint press release received here on Wednesday.
According to the release, the road now lies unusable with the onset of monsoon, cutting the two villages of Nzauna and Lalong completely off from the Sub-Divisional Headquarter. The citizens of the area are totally frustrated with the pace of development and wonder if it is really for the welfare of the public, it stated.
Calling out the apathy of the Contractors, who in spite of the assurance of free materials which are locally available have shown ‘total irresponsibility,’ the two village councils also criticised the State government for its inaction. “The State Government showed no authority to these errant Contractors even after signing of undertaking to complete the work within stipulated time,” it underscored.
The citizens of the area therefore appeal to the Government to black list these irresponsible Contractors at the earliest and allot work to responsible Constructor(s) who can complete the work on time for the welfare of the citizens of the area, it added.
