Person barred from business and residency in Wokha following alleged assault

Wokha, November 28 (MExN): A person has been barred from conducting any business or residing in Wokha District following an alleged assault, as part of measures to ensure public safety and community harmony.

The trade licence of the individual is also set to be cancelled from November 29, 2025, at 12:00 noon, until further notice.

These were among several resolutions adopted during a joint meeting of the Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Students’ Union (WVSU), and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE), following the alleged “unprovoked assault” on Franky Kikon, popularly known as YFK, a resident of Wokha Village.

According to a press release issued by the organisations, the incident occurred on November 25 between 6:30 and 7:00 PM and reportedly involved Zahir Ansari and his wife, Abeni Ansari.

Besides the resolutions against Ansari, the organisations also issued directives to house owners, landlords, and business operators, instructing them not to rent property to, or engage in any business dealings with him.

Any person found violating this directive shall be held solely accountable for any future eventualities, they cautioned.

The organisations further expressed concern over what it termed as local women, including minors, being employed by non-local businessmen and the growing trend of marriages between local women and outsiders. They cautioned that such arrangements have allegedly been misused in the past to create conflicts or shield non-locals during disputes.

In this connection, citizens were urged to “remain vigilant and exercise wisdom” concerning such situations, as well as the “increasing influences of non-locals within our ancestral land.”

The WVYO, WVSU, and WVEE also urged all residents of Wokha district to extend full cooperation in upholding peace, discipline, and security, support the enforcement of these resolutions, and help maintain a harmonious environment for future generations.

The Muslim community in Wokha has been advised to monitor members’ conduct and cooperate to maintain peace and harmony in the district.

The resolutions shall remain in force until further notice, the organisations added. They are further endorsed by the Wokha Village Council (WVC), Wokha Village Eloe Federation (WVEF), Wokha Village Government Employees Union (WVGEU), and all seven Khel Youth Organisations of Wokha Village.
