PHEK, MARCH 20 (MExN): The 41st Annual Sports Meet of Phek Government College got underway on March 20 under the theme, “Beyond the finish line,” with Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra, Superintendent of Police, Phek as the inaugural guest.

Dr Kaur, in her address, encouraged the students to take active part in sports. She shared that sports was a way of life, a lifestyle and highlighted the importance of discipline in sportsmanship and life in general. She reminded the students how life is very much like sports and why it is necessary to always compete with oneself even in the journey of life.

She pointed that it is of essence to have control of our mind and not let a single defeat or failure hinder them. She exhorted the students to motivate one another even after a win or success and how emulating this positive attitude of morale-boosting lies the true spirit of the theme ‘beyond the finish line.’ Dr Kaur also reminded the students that participation is more important than winning and urged students to play with a purpose and true sportsmanship.

The speech was followed by oath taking led by Albert Pou, Games and Sports Secretary PGC.

The first day of the sports meet began with wrestling matches, volleyball exhibition match between lady teachers and female students, football exhibition match between male faculty and male students’ executives. The four-day event will witness games like – wrestling, bamboo stick walking, various track events, football, volleyball etc.
