PGC crippled with shortage of teaching staff

FOLLOWING THE recent transfer of two Education subject lecturers from Phek Government College (PGC) to Dimapur Government College (DGC), the department of Education in PGC is functioning with a single teacher as of now. However, both the teaching faculty and the students’ community specially the Education Honour are facing untold sufferings in their academic pursue.

Decrying over the unexpected situation meted out, Vejohi Venuh, President, Phek Government College Students’ Union (PGCSU) urge the concerned department to immediately release the two transfer relievers without any further delayed. Sharing the difficulties of the concern present single teacher, Venuh alleged, ‘it was beyond the capacity of any teacher to tackle the situation of a department by a single person’ adding that the two relievers should be sent to the college immediately to carry out the normal functioning of the affairs of the students’ community on humanitarian ground. He also said that the students’ cannot remain silent spectators if the concerned authority did not respect the sentiments of the students’ community. In the meantime Venuh further sought the concerned elected representative, bureaucrats, and student organizations, leaders of various organizations, intellect and all concerned. to render a joint efforts fighting for the welfare of the students’ community.

Mentioned may be made, that 10 years back, One English lecturer with post was transferred to Kohima Science College. The PGC with an intention of restoring back the transferred post is tirelessly working for the last 10 years but unfortunately their efforts gain no fruitful results. It was further stated that, while consulting the Chief Minister for the aforesaid matter, the college was advised to go fighting for the creation of new post which is beyond the capacity of both the teachers association and the students’ union. Hence, the matter pertaining with the same still lies unresolved.

The PGCSU while showing their solidarity towards the Phek Government College Teachers Association (PGCTA) condemned the act of Dr. K. Hoshi, where their principal was verbally abused in the one of the incident. The PGCSU further appeals to all the right thinking denizens to respect the teaching faculty for the community larger interest in the long run.
