PGC lecturers’ transfer issue rocks CSU Assembly

Following the transfer of lecturers from Phek Government College (PGC) by the Higher Education Department, the 2nd Union Assembly (U/A) of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) deliberated on the issue, which was held today at Conclave Hall, LCS building Kohima.

Apart from the other issues, the house specifically dwelled on the lecturers transferred from PGC with post to other colleges for the third time within a span of few years, where two posts (English lecturer post to Kohima Science College in 2003 and Education post to Dimapur Government College in 2009) were absorbed under transferred with posts and one post on the temporary arrangement adjusting physics lecture with political science to Pfutsero Government College this year.

Expressing its resentment over the attitude of the department, CSU President Esther Rhakho at the meeting stated that government gave many assurances on various occasions but it has failed to address their demands. She also added that the CSU is fed up with the present stage and has planed to take action, for which she sought the mandate support of the units. Disclosing that as per the observation availed from the department concerned some suspicious things were initiated by the concerned higher education minister; thereby the department’s assurance was not fulfilled till date. “We are second to none thereby we cannot remain mute spectator any longer, we should fight tooth and  nail to get back what is ours where we should prepare ourselves even to the extend of physical confrontation.” The house unanimously express its discontentment over the minister concerned for playing such ugly tactics towards the community and termed the act as uncalled for.

The house after lengthy deliberation, resolved to serve an ultimatum to the government to address the grievances of the CSU as was stated in the previous representations and if the concerned department fails to respond positively, the Union has unanimously resolved to go for agitation. The very matter was endorsed to the Executive for necessary proceedings at the earliest time.

As approved by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) in the last federal assembly recommending CSU to host the forth coming 24th NSF general conference coinciding with the 64th general seminar of the CSU in 2011, the house endorsed the matter to the executive for early confirmation of the venue.

The house further resolved that any affiliated units and subordinate bodies, failing to turn up to the union assembly for the two consecutive times will be called for explanation, absent for three consecutive times shall be barred to have its voting right in the general election and absent for four or more times shall be ex-communicated from the Union.

Condemning the attitude of N. K. Jha, Hindi teacher who was transferred from GMS Lozaphuhu to GMS Meriema some years back after School education directorate issued an order to rejoin the parent posting (GMS Lozaphuhu) along with the DIS Kohima issuing a release order did not join till date. Terming his attitude as direct threat to the Chakhesang community, the Union executive was endorsed to served ultimatum to the government to issue show cause notice to NK.Jha failing to comply with CSU demands the department will be the sole responsibility if any unwanted things meted out NK.Jha.

NSF President Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, who is also present in the Assembly while addressing the house, stated that education being one of the most basic needs in the present society any loopholes confronting the educational system should be checked so that it produces quality education paving the way for the youngsters a wide range of scope. Citing instances that corruption in educational department exposes having approximately 60 to 70 teachers in 80 to 100 students’ enrolled institution where he said, such things should be seriously viewed upon and severely dealt as well.

Mudovoyi Medeo, President, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union and Mustivoyi Kotso CSU ex-president and Tribunal general of CSU also participate in the house debate and discussion. Meanwhile Speaker Thupukuhto Lohe while observing the grievances of units facing severe problems in the field of education, where some were beyond human toleration, Lohe express his sympathy over the unexpected situation meted out to the community and in the meantime appeals the DEO and DIS and even DC to give their best effort to drive out such menace from the land of the Chakhesang.
