E Mhonbemo Patton and others during their visit to Enhulumi village on May 4
Kohima, May 6 (MExN): Nagaland PHED Principal Secretary, E Mhonbemo Patton and PHED chief engineer & HoD Er Repangyanba Longkumer visited Enhulumi village in Phek district on May 4 to supervise the Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Water Management.
They were accompanied by other officials of PHED and North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), stated in a release issued by Er Neitelo Koza, SDO PHED, Pfutsero.
IoT is a pilot initiative being implemented by NEIDA in partnership with PHED, Nagaland. The pilot project is being funded by the Tata Trusts. IoT is a sensor-based monitoring system that employs sensors to capture, collate and transmit data via internet on the quality, quantity of water available to the households in the selected villages. IoT provides real-time information without any manual intervention by using sensors such as chlorine sensor, pressure sensor and flow meters.
This would not only allow effective monitoring and management on-ground, but also enable real-time visibility to PHED officials, and citizens about the status of the water supply.
The objective of this pilot is to show how the monitoring mechanism can contribute to the Jal Jeevan Mission wider rollout. The data collected at the village level is automatically sent to the central level Jal Jeevan Mission dashboard of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) website which is accessible for everyone.
Adopting these remote sensors-based monitoring and controlling can aid in effectively mitigating the issues of Operational and Maintenance, ensure efficient and responsible use of water and empower the community to own and manage their in-village water supply systems.
Speaking on occasion, Patton shared that this is the first IoT pilot in Nagaland and people from different locations will come to visit as this will be a model village for IoT. He encouraged the village community to co-operate and actively engage in operating and maintaining the IoT infrastructures for sustainability.
NEIDA has been selected as the Implementation Support Agency (ISA) under JJM and an MoU signed between NEIDA and PHED to work in 148 villages in Phek, Kiphire, Noklak and Tuensang districts.
