The 1st Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Sports Meet got underway on October 2 at the 365 Arena, Dimapur. The two-day sports meet is being organised by the Association of Public Health Engineers Nagaland (APHEN), and declared open by PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi.

Zhimomi, in his address, said the event, in line with its theme, ‘Unity, Equality and Health for all,’ was a platform to foster unity and camaraderie among staff while also promoting the spirit of sportsmanship. He encouraged the participants to give their best, noting that sports also offered promising professional opportunities including recognition, career security, and economic benefits for talented individuals.

He further expressed hope that other departments in the state would emulate such initiatives to encourage sporting culture across Nagaland.

Altogether, 17 teams from across Nagaland are participating in the meet, competing in badminton, tug of war, Futsal and carrom. The inaugural programme also included the celebration of “Swachh Bharat Diwas” and culmination of fortnightly cleanliness campaign “Swachhatta Hi Seva” 2025.
