
Phek, December 1 (MExN): The Phek Area Public Organisation (PAPO) today brought to the notice of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority on “non-release of fund.”
The PAPO in a press release stated that Tizu surrounding villages have witnessed unprecedented flood on July 4, 2015, resulting in immense destruction worth lakhs of rupees of planted crops on both sides of the river and hanging foot bridges at several points, which serve as the only lifeline of communication were all swept away.
Having completely cut off, villages like K Khuno, Tehephu and Suthotsu had to undergo untold hardship for want of medical emergency and other basic necessities, the PAPO reported.
Following the unfortunate disaster, PAPO submitted public memorandum to the then DC Phek and the same to be forwarded to the department for immediate financial assistance for reconstruction of the hanging foot bridges, it stated.
As per the PAPO memorandum, the then DC Phek, Morohu Chotso submitted proposal with technical estimate to the NSDMA and accordingly, the National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi has accorded sanctioned vide office letter dated March 9, 2016: Reconstruction of bridge over Tizu River on Chepoketa-Tehephu (Rs 46,56,112.38); Reconstruction of foot bridge over Tizu River on Khuza-K Khuno (Rs 14,19,020.99); Reconstruction of foot bridge over Tizu River on Chepoketa-Suthotsu road (Rs 9,32,986.59).
However, the PAPO stated that almost four years on, the sanctioned amount has not been released by NSDMA and it is pending in spite of repeated appeals to the concerned department to release the fund beginning from 2016 fill date.
Therefore, PAPO has inquired from NSDMA on the non-release of fund and reasons for the delay.
