Phek, February 19 (MExN): The Phek district Special Court has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the repeated sexual assault of his minor adopted daughter, which resulted in her pregnancy when she was 14 years old.
The court of the Special Judge, POCSO Act, pronounced the convict guilty on February 18.
According to Phek Police, a written complaint was received on February 12, 2025, from a resident of Chozuba town. The complaint alleged multiple instances of sexual assault against a minor girl, who was the niece of the accused and was living with him as his adopted daughter.
Based on the complaint, Women Police Station registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The press release stated that the investigation was conducted meticulously, with all forensic and circumstantial evidence documented properly.
Following the trial, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine on February 18.
Phek Police reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of women and children, stating that crimes against children will be met with the full force of the law. The police department commended the efforts of the Investigating Officer, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Phek district administration, the prosecution team, and the witnesses for their role in securing the conviction.
