Dignitaries and others at the observance of International Women’s Day held in Phek Government College on March 8.

Kohima, March 10 (MExN): The Phek Government College (PGC) celebrated International Women’s day under the theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” at the college campus organised by Women Development Cell, PGC on March 8.
The resource person, Dr Levinu Sakhrie, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science emphasised on the theme and deliberated on the significant contribution and achievements made by women. She reflected on the critical challenges on gender equality faced by women in the Naga society where participation and representation of women are often neglected.
Sakhrie believed that if women are given the opportunity, they have the potentials to shine and excel. Speaking from the Nagaland context, Sakhrie said that women have excelled in many fields particularly in the education sector and in sports and business as well. She urged every women to invest and empower themselves of their abilities which will open limitless opportunities. Sakhrie also emphasised on the need for women to be treated with respect and dignity in all aspects.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Hunulu Hoshi, BSc 6th semester while Dutulu Keyho invoked God’s blessings. Greeting was delivered by PGC Vice-Principal Shepalu Suyie.
Evangelical Union and Hobito Swuro presented special songs while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Thejotalu Nienu, Convenor of Women Development Cell, PGC.
