
Phek, August 6 (MExN): The officials of Phek District Legal Services Authority visited District Sub-Jail in Phek on August 5. The visit was made to ensure the rights of the prisoners and provide assistance in the form of care, counseling and legal aid to the inmates, according to a press release received here.
The team was led by Longshi Ezung, District & Sessions judge and chairman of Phek District Legal services Authority, Ajong Imchen, Civil Judge and Secretary of Phek District Legal Services Authority, Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers.
An interaction session was conducted along with the jail staff, jail authorities and the inmates. The under trials prisoners and convicts were sensitized on various rights and free legal aid provisions. The inmates were also informed about the free legal aid counseling and legal assistance available under the Legal Services Schemes for under trials prisoners, convicts or any citizen whose annual income does not exceed Rs 1 lakh per year.
The free legal aid is also provided to women and children irrespective of economic status, members of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, disabled persons, persons in custody, industrial workmen, and victims of mass disaster, violence, floods, drought, earthquake, industrial violence, and victims of trafficking in human beings or beggar.
PDLSA team also examined the health conditions and recorded the grievance and complaint of the jail inmates. Evaluation and assessment was performed to ensure speedy trial for the under trial prisoners and to provide legal assistance.
