Phek | June 13 : Farmers of Phek region are busy with their yearly paddy rice cultivation. This summer, the farmers are favoured with normal weather.
Cultivation work usually falls in the last week of May also termed as Dzutshethokri-a cultivation month for wet paddy field. The farmers under Phek district are reportedly facing no nature related problems and they are carrying out their annual cultivation work efficiently. The busy summer cultivation season which determines the yearly stock of granary for the people is in full swing. Both young and old attend their paddy field leaving almost all homes empty during the daytime.
Interacting with this correspondent, an elderly man from Phek Village stated, “All people irrespective of young and old, men and women are rendering their best effort making effort to fill their granary with fruitful harvest for the forthcoming festivities.”
People are hardly found loitering around during this season, he maintained and added that inorder to keep their homes under safe custody village patrol has been deployed in all wards of the village on rotation basis. Stating the very seasonal works as very important he said, “in case of stealing or burglary, normally people who did not attend their field without proper reason were to be blamed.”
It is said that people from this area are regarded as one of the hardest agriculturalists from the Chakhesang community and reported to possess huge quantity of grains in their granary. This community leave for their field between 4:30 to 5:00 am as their daily routine and are back to their home by the same time in the evening.
Mention may be made that, as of now fields from this region have no report of facing disasters like mudslides or landslides, however following the heavy rainfalls for the last few days, there is a fear of facing such calamity.
It can be reminded here that last year the DAN government provided relief seeds and materials following the occurrence of unexpected calamities. Farmers reportedly observed fasting seeking good and favourable weather before they entered their work field and to escape from calamities in the near future.
