World Population Day was observed at Phek District.

Phek, July 11 (MExN): World Population Day was observed at Phek District today under the theme, “Healthy Timing & Spacing of Pregnancies for wellbeing of Mother & Child.”
Deputy CMO, Phek, Dr MC Longai Phom while delivering the keynote address highlighted the importance of birth spacing and its benefits and encouraged the health care workers to spread awareness on the importance of family planning and its measures, informed a press release.
The speaker informed that in all the Health Units basket, Family Planning services will be available and family planning camp will be conducted at District Hospital from July 11-24, this month for those who opt for permanent method.
During this fortnight, he said the ASHAs will be mobilising the beneficiaries to go for Family Planning and also carry out Interpersonal Communication Session with eligible couple and share different methods of Family planning available in the district and its compensation.
Various activities will be carried out such as counselling to eligible couple, distribution of IEC materials, condoms, OCP among others, he further stated.
Dr Pangertemsu, Gynae & Obstetrics, District Hall, Phek who was the resource person pointed out the impact of over population and the objectives of commemorating the day every year.
He said it is observed to bring out awareness on improving living standard by maintaining spacing of pregnancies and healthy timing and to prevent unwanted pregnancies and decrease infant and maternal mortality rate by spreading awareness on Family Planning methods and its benefits.
Dr Pangertemsu also spoke about the different methods of family planning available in the district and who can adopt it.
Earlier the programme was chaired by District Programme Manager, NHM Sede Rupreo and invocation was delivered by Kuveyi Khamo.
