Officials along with the winners and participants during the U-14 ‘Catch Them Young’ Sepaktakraw Tournament 2026 held at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Pfutsero, on September 7.
Phek, September 7 (MExN): The Phek District U-14 ‘Catch Them Young’ Sepaktakraw Tournament 2026 was held at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Pfutsero, on Monday, with schools from across the district participating in the boys’ and girls’ categories.
The tournament was organised by the ANPSA Phek Unit in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by Atshole Kenye, General Secretary, ANPSA Pfutsero Division, while District Sports Officer, Phek, Tepulezonu Tetso, attended as the special guest.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Vikholie Venuh, Advisor, ANPSA Phek Unit, followed by a welcome address by Thepuhu Thira, President, ANPSA Phek Unit.
Thira thanked the special guest, dignitaries, referees and participating schools, and said the tournament was aimed at promoting unity, discipline and sportsmanship among students.
Baptist School, Pfutsero, presented a special number, while the oath-taking ceremony was administered by Chief Referee Stephen Choriya.
Addressing the gathering, Tetso congratulated ANPSA Phek for organising the tournament and encouraged the young players to remain disciplined, hardworking and committed to true sportsmanship.
She urged the students to take sports seriously alongside their studies and assured them of continued support from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports. She subsequently officially kicked off the tournament.
In the boys’ category, Nazareth Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero, secured the first position, followed by Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero, in second place and Eastern Mission High School, Chizami, in third.
In the girls’ category, Good Shepherd Baptist School, Kikrüma, emerged first, while Union Christian School, Pfutsero, finished second and Royal Foundation Higher Secondary School, Phek, third.
The prize distribution was conducted by Ado Sakhrie, Advisor, ANPSA Phek Unit. The programme concluded with a benediction by Chani Roseline.
The ANPSA Phek Unit said the winning teams would represent Phek district at the Inter-District U-14 ‘Catch Them Young’ Sepaktakraw Tournament, tentatively scheduled from September 21 to 24 at IG Stadium, Kohima.
The association expressed gratitude to the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, ANPSA Central, participating schools, officials and volunteers for their support in making the tournament a success.
