Phek, November 25 (MExN): The District Administration and DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra, Phek in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao commemorated International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women at Phek town on November 25.

In his keynote address, Phek Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Jaiswal stressed on the need to eliminate violence against women. He urged upon everyone to spread the message “stop violence against women” and work together to ensure a peaceful coexistence.

Phek Superintendent of Police, Vesupra Kezo spoke on the theme “Orange the world: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect.’

Meanwhile, on account of 16 Days Activism on Gender Based Violence, the next activity will be conducted at Meluri Sub- division under Phek district for sensitisation programme in five villages including Shilloi Lake.

It may be recalled that violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violation in the world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence and stigma surrounding it.

In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms. Violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace as well as the fulfilment of women and girls’ human rights.

The promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “to leave no one behind” cannot be fulfilled without putting an end to violence against women and girls, stated DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra, Phek.

The programme chaired by Bhavani, SDO(C) & Nodal Officer BBBP, Phek, was followed by walkathon, billed as “Walk against violence.” Various civil societies and students from different schools joined the event. It concluded with launching of LED by Phek DC.
