Lozaphuhu | January 12 : The 12th Sports Meet of Phek Area Sports Association (PASA) underway at Lozaphuhu village entered the second day today. The day witnessed a number of events in both the men’s and women’s categories. The athletics section, on the verge of completion, has only a few field events left. This year’s meet will also witness women’s football. Kuluveyi and Muleshelu, both from Phek were declared as the best sportsman & woman respectively, winning three gold each.
A report from Vekhoseyi Keyho, president, PASA stated that the inaugural function held on January 11 was graced by Minister for Health & family Welfare, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu. The minister also donated a sum of Rs. one lakh to the PASA and Rs. 10,000 each to all the five participant units.
The weeklong tourney which began on Tuesday here at Lozaphuhu village will culminate on January 15, coinciding with the Sukrenye festival – the premier festival of the Chakhesang tribe. Selections to represent PASA in the forthcoming 30th Phek District Sports Association Meet to be held at Lephori Village from January 31 to February 9, 2011 will be based on the performance of the athletes in the events currently underway. Thuputhiyi S.Venuh, vice-president of the NPF Farmer’s Wing, Phek Division will grace the closing ceremony on January 15.
