
Phek, April 15 (MExN): Hundreds of local contractors today protested at the site office of Stroyproekt LLC OIA JV, the contractor currently executing Kohima-Jessami Package V road construction project in the Phek district.
As per a press note receive here, the local contractors were “agitated” as they were informed by some officials of NHIDCL that the work was terminated on account of slow progress. The project reportedly employs 90% local population.
An official of the project then informed the MLA Küzholuzo Nienü, the sitting legislator from Phek Assembly constituency, who reportedly “rushed to the spot and intervened.”
He assured the protestor of intervention and to hold discussion with the NHIDCL officials in Kohima on April 17 and if situation demands, involve the officials in Delhi
He has requested the locals to maintain peace and not resort to violence, the press note added.
Meanwhile, protest leader A Movi stated that the agitators had decided to block the road w.e.f May 1, which would disrupt traffic to Meluri and adjacent road packages, if their pending bills were not paid and if they were not allowed to continue their works.
