Phek Police arrests alleged accused in minor abuse case

Phek, July 1 (MExN): A person has been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old girl in Pfutsero. 
According to a press release issued by the Phek Police Media Cell, a written complaint was received at Pfutsero Police Station on June 29 at around 7 PM, reporting the incident of abuse.

As per the complaint, the minor was allegedly subjected to “severe abuse” by her foster mother, who also happened to be her grandmother.

However, during the course of the investigation and with technical assistance, it was ascertained that the alleged accused moved from Pfutsero to Chümoukedima before the FIR was filed, the police said. 

The accused also absconded from the Chümoukedima address in the early morning hours when the police team reached there, the release said.

However, following sustained efforts and utilising all available means, the accused was traced and arrested by a Phek police team from Diphupar Police Station with support from assistance from Chumoukedima and Dimapur Police, it informed. 

After this, alleged accused was brought back to Phek district by Phek Police team, it added.

A case has also been registered under Women Police Station Case No. 0002/25, Under Section 109/115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

According to Phek Police, the victim is currently in a safe environment and is receiving care, protection, and counselling at the Sakhi One Stop Centre, along with medical treatment at the District Hospital.

Investigation of the case is going on as per legal procedures, it added. 

The Phek Police further extended appreciation to civil society organisations and members of the public for their continued continued faith, trust and support in its endeavour of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the district. 

It also requested all citizens to keep coordinating with Phek Police in future.

The Phek Police also urged citizens to report and refrain from any form of child abuse or cruelty, emphasising that such acts are punishable under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015
