DIMAPUR, AUGUST 9 (MExN): To achieve effective deterrence against illegal procurement and sale of prohibited substances like ‘Codeine’ which is commonly found in cough syrup, the Phek police have initiated the process of applying for cancellation of drug licenses of errant pharmacies.
Recently, upon application to the Drug Controller, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare by SP Phek, the license of one Jagat pharmacy, Meluri town, Phek was cancelled following seizure of 205 bottles of Codeine cough syrup from the proprietor Jagat Lakambri, a press statement issued by SP Phek, Vrinda Shukla informed on Friday.
The seizure was made by the police personnel manning Lanyi Check Gate in Phek district. The proprietor of Jagat Pharmacy could not produce any cash memo/invoice to justify legitimate purchase and future sale of the drug.
All police stations in the district has been directed to follow similar policy of immediately applying for cancellation of drug licenses in case of pharmacies illegally selling psychotropic substances, which are being rampantly abused by the youth, the SP has further directed.
