Dimapur, Feb 21 (MExN): In an assertive show of local rural-administrative entities taking on the gauntlet to impact a change, Phek Village Council has adopted certain notable resolutions highlighting compulsory people’s participation in local management, from economy to developmental initiatives. The resolutions, which included a directive for collective commercial farming demanding compulsory “planting” of green seed, was adopted at the 2007 annual council sitting of the council held in Phek Village on February 20. Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Minister for Printing & Stationery, was also in attendance as a special guest.
As a major point for the implementation of the session 2007-2008, the house resolved to continue the incomplete construction work of Khabor Agri Link road. It was decided that irrespective of VDBs and other related schemes, the rest of the work shall be carried out even with contribution of free labor from the village.

Relatively, a major project on ‘sweet orange’ will be taken up at Soporu where every landowner of the said location will compulsorily plant a minimum of 50 sweet orange saplings. On failing to comply with the directive, the defaulter will be penalized with stern action as deemed fit.

On the political front, the house strongly reaffirmed an earlier resolution in respect of the forthcoming general elections scheduled next year that the village would strongly support the present ‘Village Representative’ Minister Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu. It was resolved that any person(s) from the village found violating the resolution shall be considered ‘anti-citizen’ and shall be penalized as deemed fit.

On other matters, the house appointed a managing board for Government High School, Phek village with Khriesazo Huire as Vice Chairman. The council also felicitated Dr. Zhoko Venuh, with a traditional shawl, as recognition of his being the first person from the village to receive Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree under the department of History & Archaeology.

The council sitting also took strong note of a “letter” served to Azo, asking him to step down from his post, besides accusing him of “struggling for anti-Naga nationalism”, mentioning that he was involved in the ‘process of terminating’ the FGN (non-Accordist).

The letter, written by persons in the name of “Rhakho”, “Keyho” and “Venuh”, which are only style name of clans from the village, warned the minister with a “Death Sentence” if he did not comply. The house openly challenged the writers to step forward with ‘clear names’ and not act as cowards and ‘easy money seekers’. An enquiry committee to nab the culprits was also decided upon and also resolved to punish them, even with capital punishment, if deemed fit or if not, other dire consequences shall be imposed on them.

Minister Azo, meanwhile in his address at the meeting pointed out the necessity and importance of maintaining unity and feeling of oneness vis-à-vis ongoing developmental activities. Citing several instances of development taken up, he challenged to co-operate with contractors as and when need arises.
